Customer's preference	She wanted a colour that would make use of her black hair base, and add contrast to it at the same time.
Advice from the stylist	I suggested for her to add some highlights. Not simply a one color highlight, but a mix of a slightly brighter highlight and another slightly darker highlight, which would create a three-tone color, and bring out more of the contrast as per her preferences.
Customer's thoughts on the outcome	She was glad that the highlights added some movement and lightened the heaviness of her long black hair.
Stylist's thoughts on the outcome	While it would have also been good enough to simply brighten up the hair ends with the balayage technique, creating a contrast by adding different-toned highlights would add more style to tresses whether left long or curled. Highlights also allow for the difference between newly grown hair at the roots and the coloured length to be less obvious, enabling the style to last longer without retouching.
