Shichi-go-san

Shichi-go-san is the celebration of 3-5-7 years old children in Japan. The occasion is celebrated on November 15th. (also because 3+5+7 makes up the number 15)

These ages are celebrated in Japan as it is seen as important stages in a child’s growth, and odd numbers are known as lucky in Japan too.

Daughters will be dressed in Kimonos, and sons will be dressed in Hakamas. The occasion is often celebrated with a visit to a shrine to give thanks for the child’s health and well-being, paired with a photoshoot.

A red and white candy called Chitose-ame (“thousand year candy”) is also given to the child for longevity and health!
