Root Perm

Recently we’ve had some calls asking for root perms, but we regret to inform you that we don’t offer this service at our hair salon.

But why not?

Firstly, and most importantly, our stylists at our hair salon really do not recommend root perms. (I actually asked them separately about it and they mostly reacted with horror at the thought…) You might get a nice voluminous effect for a couple of weeks, but perms are chemical treatments after all, and the roots of your hair are supposed to be the most healthy so that your hair can grow out properly! If you perm the roots of your hair, the chemical damage might result in breakage, which would lead to a great deal of trouble later… Furthermore, if the perm is not executed flawlessly, you might get weird kinks when growing it out, and you’d have to fix that with even more chemical treatments…

Secondly, root perming is a Korean technology, so it’s mostly offered at Korean hair salons! We pride ourselves on being a Japanese hair salon, so we exclusively use Japanese techniques and hair products. Keiko thinks that Japanese companies haven’t focused on developing this technique because it’s too dangerous to risk that much chemical damage to the hair roots. We hope there’ll be a research breakthrough soon 🙁

So how do we combat flat roots without a root perm?

The least damaging and therefore most recommended way is blowdrying… In Singapore’s hot weather, blowdrying can be a very unpleasant task, but we have to do what we have to do. With some effort, you can protect your hair from unnecessary damage (and your wallet too)! You should also get a cut that works with your hair! If your hair is too long, it might be pulled down from the weight, which results in hair that looks flat.

Feel free to consult our stylists at our hair salon about your issues with your hair, and let them suggest a look that works well with your hair and your lifestyle 🙂 If you feel especially insecure, you can come down to our hair salon for a consultation first, and then decide if you’d like to make an appointment to our hair salon. No pressure at all! We do recommend dropping us a text to let us know that you’ll be swinging by, so that we can be sure a stylist at our hair salon will be available to talk with you.
