Negative Hair color

I do not understand why hair colors still have a negative stigma to it. I just got a call from someone who pretty much gave me THE TALK about how I should not be coloring my hair such bright colors, especially since I am planning to work in the hospitality business.

It is 2020, and I figured that hair color would be the least of anyone’s worries right now. I find hair color a great form of self expression, it is fun. Just like buying new clothes or new accessories, it is a way to express yourself and this is probably the last chance I get to try such crazy colors before I join the hospitality industry.

Of course, I was not planning to apply for a job in a hotel with blue hair, because that is not the industry’s standard. Working in a hotel means you have to be prim and proper to represent the hotel and as a form of respect to the guests that you are serving.

Why does my past hair colors have to affect whether I can get a job in the future. Why does it create a negative impression of myself if I have pictures of my colored hair on Instagram. Why does having colored hair in the past make me any less eligible for a job than any of the other applicants who may not have had their hair colored. What does my previous hair color have anything to do with how capable of a worker I am or can be?

I can’t wrap my head around this idea, nope.

A part of me will always regret not being creative enough to join the creative field.
