New Stylist In Town!

Hello comrades! It is your BTS-loving, gif-spamming, very extra counter staff on duty again today.

Today’s post will be very special, because we will be introducing to you a new member of our Art-Noise staff! He is a new stylist who just started in June (technically, he’s been working since 28 May, but officially he started 01 June), and will be here for the next 2 years, so please do take care of him and welcome him to Singapore!!

Yours truly has taken the golden opportunity to intrude on his break time to do a short interview with him, transcribed below for your fun reading! There is no picture of him unfortunately, because the folks from BeautyUndercover will be coming to do their interview and his profile write-up tomorrow, and they are the professionals, so moi shall leave the heavy lifting to dem pros. This post, therefore, will function as a preview/extra factoid sheet for his upcoming profile! So please enjoy!

Q: So, first things first, would you mind giving us a short introduction of yourself?
Y: Okay, so, I’m Shimoda Yuji, 31 years old. My hobbies are mainly travelling, photography, and drinking (lol). I’ve also recently picked up drawing (T/N: he draws hella well life is unfair)

Q: Where are you from?
Y: I’m from Kanagawa, but I’ve lived out more of my life in Yokohama.

Q: Oh? You went to school there?
Y: Yes, I played soccer in high school -been playing it since elementary school-, and I lived in a dorm on campus. I was also based in the Yokohama branch of my previous salon for 5 years before they transferred me to the Tokyo branch for another 4 years.

Q: So, this is your 10th year as a stylist?
Y: Yes, thereabouts.

Q: Can you share with us why you decided to come to Singapore?
Y: Well, I always wanted to work overseas, and it just so happened that I got to meet (owner). I’ve come to Singapore three times previously (for holiday), and found here to be pretty nice, so when the opportunity came, I gamely took it and came here.

Q: What would you say is your best technique?
Y: Hmm… I’m quite good with short cuts. Or rather, I like doing short styles.

Q: Short styles for women, I’m guessing?
Y: Oh yeah, I’ve had more experience on that side, so definitely. The more rounded kind of short-style, specifically. For men’s cuts, I tend to do sharper, more clean-cut looks.

Q: I see… What would you say would be the kind of style you’d consider yourself best at, then?
Y: My previous salon had quite a young clientele so… I would say I’m better with cute styles. Since that’s the style I have more experience with.

Q: You’ve taken on 10 customers so far (statistically correct at the time this interview was conducted). Based on this (limited) sample, could you perhaps give us some daily hair care or styling tips? Taking into consideration our local climate, of course.
A: Hmmm, let’s see… The humidity is quite high in Singapore, right? In climates like this, hair tends to fall flat very easily, which is why flatness of hair has been quite a recurring concern (among my customers). To create more volume when styling your hair in a very humid environment, I would recommend making good use of a hair dryer.

Q: One last request: a word to your future clients, please!
A: あなたの一番を引き出します！(T/N: I will draw out your best!)
