What is rebonding?

In its simplest form, Rebonding is a chemical treatment which breaks the bonds in your hair through the use of a very strong chemical. Afterwards those bonds are restructured and hence the name “Rebonding”. This process can be done in multiple ways, but this is how we do it at Art-Noise.

The characteristics of Art-Noise Singapore’s Aqua-Straight Rebonding

We have prepared chemicals that contain moisturizing substances that work appropriately with Singapore’s humid climate. By providing the necessary moisture to the hair, the smooth and natural styling becomes possible.

Preparation
1.Consultation
Thorough examination of hair (thickness/thinness, amount of damage, history of straightening perms and rebonding)
2.Pre-shampoo
Examination of hair when it is wet.
3.Pre-treatment
Replenishing the nutrients in the hair with ionized moisturizer and chitosan.

Rebonding process

First chemical treatment
The hair will be divided into centre and side blocks, and the chemical will be applied to the hair 1cm away from the roots and 1~2cm away from the nape. This chemical is also known as “relaxant”.

Heating
(5~30 minutes, below 60℃)
The time depends on the extent of hair damage and the condition of the hair so it ranges between 5~30 minutes.
*While warming the wrap, precautions will be taken to avoid chemicals being applied to the roots and hair being forcibly bent.
*To allow the heat to spread equally for long and thick hair, each block will be divided into 2 or 3 smaller blocks. This will create spaces for duck curls.
*In order to check the weakening of hair, one strand will be wrapped around the finger and pulled.

Plain rinsing
Thorough rinsing, making sure no chemicals are left around the nape.

Ironing

After the previous process of breaking down the bonds in your hair, those bonds will now need to be restructured through the use of a flat iron.

Drying
The roots will be thoroughly dried. The customers will feel the heat of the water evaporating from the roots. For retouches, the roots are to be dried but not excessively.
Iron treatment
Depending on the hair condition ironing will use the “press through” method. This part of the process is also the part which restructures your hair bonds. Performing this part perfectly is very important as it will greatly effect the final outcome.

Second chemical treatment

Chemical 2 is hydrogen peroxide so it needs to be left for 2~3 minutes. This is also commonly known as “neutralizer”. This is to help the newly formed bonds in your hair set and stabilize.

Plain rinsing
The chemicals will be rinsed thoroughly.

Styling

Your stylist then blow-dries your hair straight in its finished style.

It is best that you do not wash your hair for 24 hours after rebonding as that can disturb the process in which your hair needs to set and stabilize.
