Hair FAQ: Hair Treatment

Hi everyone! Next up on our Frequently Asked Questions series will be… Hair Treatments! So here’s the answer to some inquiries we often get regarding the hair treatments offered in Art-Noise.

1. What is the difference between the Detox Treatment and Keratin (Tokio inkarami) treatment?

The Detox treatment is the “normal” treatment that our stylists often recommend to customers with less damaged hair. Just as the name goes, the detox treatment detoxifies the hair — yes our hair needs to detox too, just like our body! There are three steps to the treatment process and before the treatment process starts, dirt and styling product residues are first washed away from the hair. Step 1: Removing the toxins within the hair, such as calcium ions (which comes from the tap water we shower in). Step 2: Introducing nutrients that are similar to the nutrients in healthy hair into the hair. Step 3: Applying a coating over the hair to lock the nutrients in the hair.

The keratin treatment is a more intensive hair treatment that is usually recommended to customers with more damaged hair, for example through repeated bleaching and or other chemical treatments. Similar to the Detox Treatment, the toxins within the hair are removed, as well as other alkalis from perm/straightening and radicals from coloring. However, keratin and nutrients introduced into the hair will be more concentrated and will penetrate deeper into the hair, and the treatment is ended with a coating over the hair to lock the nutrients in. After the keratin treatment, your hair will feel a little heavier, which is normal as nutrients are added in that strengthens the hair.

2. Which hair treatment should I get?

As mentioned earlier, the detox hair treatment is recommended for customers with less damaged hair. There are nutrients in the healthy hair but through chemical processes, the nutrients within the hair will leak out. Hair treatments serves to replenish nutrients similar to what is originally inside the hair to make it healthier. However, there is a limit to how much nutrients the hair can absorb. As such, if you do not have very damaged hair, it is likely that there are still quite alot of nutrients within the hair. It is thus pointless and a waste of money if you do a keratin treatment which inputs more nutrients into your hair as the nutrients will just flow out once the ‘quota’ inside is maxed.

3. Can the keratin hair treatment straighten my hair or take away the frizz?

Unlike other hair salons that offer keratin treatments that straightens the hair temporarily, the keratin treatment in Art-Noise does not do so. It serves to strengthen the hair and make it healthier, but it does not straighten the hair. However, it does help to tame the frizz that is caused by damaged hair, by combating the root cause of frizz – damaged hair from chemical treatments. While the hair may feel a little heavier, it will not become straighter.

4. Will doing hair treatment once help my regain healthy hair forever?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. There is a common misconception that once a hair treatment is done, the hair becomes healthy again and remains healthy. However, the truth is that nutrients introduced into your hair will leak out over time. Especially when you expose your hair to chemical treatments such as coloring or perming, etc, the nutrients will leak out even faster. Hence, it is recommended to have hair treatment done either once a month or once in two months.
