Simple Hair Styling

It is a day before Valentine’s so while we’re not exactly for the concept of a commercialised idea that has completely lost the meaning of it’s origins (~~maybe it’s just me, maybe it’s Maybelline~~), we acknowledge wanting to look bootiful for your special someone, or random date, or just yourself.

This is a follow up from the previous “Valentine’s Day” post.

As promised ~~(not really)~~, this is the “how-to” for replicating that wavy, airy look with a straightener/straight iron.

This method can be used on any hair length, and it’s shockingly simple. All you need is a decent hair iron, ~~an electrical socket~~, and some practice if you seldom use/have never used it before. We recommend to set it on low heat to practice before you set out to do the actual thingamajig. It’s important to practice so as to find the right temperature that works best for your hair (some people’s hair are more damaged, some are more stubborn). Take some free time to experiment and be careful not to leave the iron on one section for too long.

Time to transform that limp, flat hair.

First things first, heat protectant is important to protect your tresses from irreversible heat damage. Fret not if you don’t have any. Just keep it on low(er) heat, noted it may not have the same effect staying power as a higher heat setting. It is still highly recommended to use heat protectant especially for hair that is more susceptible to heat damage (or damage in general e.g. thin/fine hair)

The following are a couple of videos to explain how to create the waves with the straightener.

The basis is to work in sections. It’s easier to split it in two layers first, the lower layer and upper layer.

Clip (or whatever works best for you) the upper half up and start with the lower layer
Work in sections starting from around the face to the back
Remember to brush through the sections to spread out the hair as you go
Start on the upper layer and repeat
Finish off with your preferred styling product and voilà!

As you can see, it’s really simple to create with just a little practice. Some pointers are to alternate the direction of each section as you work your way through it to create more balanced and natural waves.

This can be used together with some hair arrangement. Below is one such example.

As seen, she uses the wave method loosely to create the overall look first, setting it with product first before moving on to the hair arrangement. This also makes it easier to grasp and secure the hair, especially for short hair. Finish off with styling the hair around the face as well.
