Summer is hitting Japan, that means summer festivals, fireworks and beautiful Yukatas!!

A common mistake that I see and am also guilty of when wearing a Yukata or even a Kimono is putting your hair down and leaving it as it is.

I have checked with our stylists, and it has been clarified that one should not leave their hair down when wearing a Yukata or a Kimono

Reason being the fact that it doesn’t look good/neat. Wearing a Yukata/Kimono does not stop at just putting it on. It is the whole package of how you portray yourself. Your hair should be tied into a updo or a side arrangement while accompanied by a matching hair accessory

Putting your hair down not only looks sloppy, but it actually covers the beautiful designs on the Yukata/Kimono, and showing off the nape is actually an important point when donning a Yukata/kimono as it is seen as attractive in Japan.

Some other rules are not wearing any accessories such as watches, necklaces, rings with the kimono as it may damage the delicate material, wearing proper traditional footwear (It has gotten slightly flexible where I see some people wearing Kimonos with Boots as a fashion statement but please oh please do not wear it with sneakers), wearing a singlet underneath to protect the Yukata/Kimono.
