Fadeout Edition – I get a lot of questions and comments about fadeout when it comes to the color I do wearing over time. Be sure to drop any fadeout questions not answered here below! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Swipe the post to see what this color on @dravendarling from my Bad Reputation collection looked like 10 washes later! Fadeout is ultimately inevitable with fashion color. You have to make sure you educate you clients on how to prevent fadeout and bleeding. I always insist my clients wash their hair in the coolest water they can stand and to always use high quality shampoo and conditioner (My shampoo and conditioners of choice for fade prevention are @colorproofhair ). I also always advise my clients to use minimum heat styling! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As far as what I do once my client’s color has faded, there are a few options- ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For patterned looks like this my placement is structured enough that I could easily follow my previous placement exactly right over the fadeout and repeat the look if that is what is desired! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Another option is to take a look at the fadeout as a whole and put a color over it that will mix well with the colors currently in the hair, avoiding opposing colors on the color wheel. For example if my client had hair faded to green, pink would not me a good choice to place over this, because the red in the pink would neutralize the green and create a muddy result. Blue would be a good example of a color that could go over green without causing conflict. Remember that your end color result is always a combination of the color you are starting with and the color you put over it. The last and final option would be to remove the color with a gentle lightener or color remover and start with a blank canvas. I tend to pick this as a last resort option, and only if I feel like my client’s hair can truly handle it. Rainbow Dahlia Re-visiting some of my favorite cold weather looks as the Midwest inches closer and closer to winter! This one will always have a special place in my heart. Often imitated, but never duplicated, this look definitely inspired a wave of similar gothic rainbows when I first posted it. One of the things I love about creative color is challenging myself to create looks on less-than-perfect canvases. Not everyone needs to be bleached out to a perfectly even, band free, level 9-10 to create beautiful looks. Use the “flaws” of your canvas to create something truly unique! Because of the previous color on this model I was only able to lift her to bandy level 7-8, I strategized my color placement around these bands to get brighter contrast where I wanted and deeper subtle tones in other areas.
