Difference between highlight and balayage

Good afternoon everyone! Today I would like to share with you the difference between a full-head highlight and a balayage:)

A full head high-light, as its name suggests, is a service that lighten strikes of your hair to create colour contrast between the base colour and the lighter strikes(highlights). Highlights therefore help to add depth to your hair.

The above is an example of a typical highlight:)

Foils are used in the process of highlighting to segregate sections of highlight from the rest of the hair. The use of foils enables for control of the width of highlight and the prevention of “bleeding” – the contact between dyes for highlight and the hair not within the intended section of highlight.

A balayage is a free hand technique for highlighting hair. Foils are not used in the process of highlighting. As such, widths of balayage highlights are less uniform. Hair ends of one who had balayage may be of the same colour because of the accumulation of dye at hair ends. However, the highlighting effect achieved by a balayage tends to be much more natural than one done with foils. The seams between the base colour and the highlight is more blurred in a balayage style. In European countries, ladies who do not have time to go the the sunny beach in summer to get their hair lighten into a natural sunkiss balayage often opt to go to salons for a balayage:)
