How often should I wash my hair

Some people are very confused as to how many times they should wash their hair. Is it daily? Once a week? twice a week? It actually varies on the person’s hair type, the weather, someone who exercises a lot! If you have oily scalp, daily wash is needed. To be honest, there is no right or wrong answer to this because like i said above, there are many factors that comes into play.

Hair produces natural oil called sebum. Shampoo strips out natural oil from your hair and scalp so if you do it TOO frequently, it may lead to dry hair leaving it prone to breakage but doing it moderately is fine to get clean and fresh hair. You definitely want some oils to remain in your hair to prevent any breakage and for the most part, some “dirt” is ok and its natural/normal. Think of the natural oils as the protector of your hair so it wont get damaged!

For some, shampooing the hair daily is necessary. Usually those people are those who have fine hair, greasy scalp, exercise frequently or those who live in humid places/countries. If you have oily scalp, then daily shampoo is necessary.

The thicker your hair and the less oil = less you need to shampoo!

Those with curly hair don’t have to wash hair daily. Curly hair is usually drier than those with straight hair hence its essential for them to have natural oils. Those with dry hair can also go days without washing them since its dry so it only makes sense if you don’t wash it often.

For the average person, every other day or every other 2 to 3 days without washing is generally fine. If hair and scalp is visibly oily, scalp is itching or there is flaking due to dirt, then its a sign to wash your hair.
