Hair FAQ: Rebonding and Hair Fall

We have been receiving quite a few calls and inquiries from customers asking for advice and possible solutions for hair fall/hair thinning problems, so in response to that, we have prepared this post as Answer Part I to those queries!

For Part I of our hair fall series today, we will be answering a common misconception many often have with regards to rebondings: does rebonding actually lead to increased hairfall?

The concise answer to that question is, a solid no. Rebondings have no direct cause to hairfall.

It may, however, have some culpability in causing your hair to seem like it is falling out more.

Regular Hair Fall

If you have a dog or a cat, or just any furry pet in general, you would know how freaking much shedding they do. Humans, likewise, also shed. Not to the degree of our other mammalian friends, but yes we do shed dead skins and hair do. The average human can lose up to 100 strands of hair a day, so if your “hair loss” is still within counting range, or hasn’t reached the point where it can clog up your drain in one wash, it is entirely within normal hair fall range, so in those cases, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

(unless of course, you’re losing 100 strands of hair from the same spot. THAT, then, will be a cause for concern. Please go look for an actual doctor if you’re experiencing something like that)

Causes for Increased Hair Fall

Of course, if there is a ‘regular’ level of hair fall, there will be an ‘irregular’ level of hair fall. Irregular hair fall can be triggered by a number of factors, such as a change in environment (emigration, haze period, etc.), using new hair products, or just simple stress. These factors can often add stress to your root cells, weakening them, and thus causing your hair to fall out. Such kinds of abnormally high hair fall, however, is usually temporary, and will either go away naturally, or stop once the stress factor is removed.

Increased hair fall observed specifically after a rebonding, likewise, also falls under the category of this kind of temporary hair loss. Increased hair fall observed after rebonding can be due to a number of reasons, such as:

Hair breakage due to overly strong rebonding chemicals used
Hair breakage from excessive force exerted during the flat-ironing step of the rebonding process

In such cases, the issue is likely due to your hair not taking too well to the stresses it got put through during the rebonding process (no matter how gentle, forcibly straightening your hair is still a very damaging process for your hair), and the hair fall will likely stop once all the weaker ends have dropped off. You are basically observing the finishing touches of human selection, in other words – only the strong, desirable ones will be left once the weak ones have died off (harsh world we live in).

Not Experiencing Abnormal Hairfall, But I Can See My Scalp??? Is That Not A Sign of Hair Loss???

A fine question. But again, no, it may not be a sign of hair loss. Appearance of thinner hair post-rebonding is, a bit sad to say, to be expected, as rebonded hair is, by definition, thinner and flatter than natural hair. Its thinness and flatness also causes it to stick closer to one’s scalp, which makes it easier to see the scalp, and thus creating the illusion of hair loss.
