Hair Care 101: Strengthening Your Tresses

The intense sun from yesterday appears to have dried out all new content from our stylists again, so today we will be back with another lengthy rambling hair care class feat. shameless product advertisement courtesy of yours truly. Buckle your seatbelts and get ready for a wall of text folks.

Today’s post will be especially useful for those of you regular salon-goers – it will be a post on hair care for chemically treated hair!

As most of you know, hair gets damaged once subjected to chemical treatments. Specifically, important proteins that make up the core of hair are often lost in the process of chemically treating hair. The loss is especially pronounced in the case of perms and rebondings, due to the need to break and reform bonds in the hair to achieve the reshaping effect of those services.

Therefore! To keep your hair in a healthy enough condition, so that you can enjoy playing around with your hair in the future, hair care will be extremely important!

In the words of our meister stylist Shuji, to restore chemically treated, especially permed or rebonded hair, to a healthy enough condition to take chemical treatments again, one needs to strengthen it by restoring at least some of the lost protein. How do we do that? The answer is by adding synthetic protein!

Cell Membrane Complex

For those of you who have patronised our salon before, you might remember this gigantic rack of products sitting in front of the sofa. Amongst them, we carry a line of homecare products from Mucota, known as Mucota AIRE+. We chose this series in particular for it’s extremely nourishing for chemically treated hair, in the sense that it contains compounds specifically meant for restoring the lost protein in hair! This compound is none other than the cell membrane complex (CMC)!

According to Google-sensei, CMC is a complex compound made up of polysaccharides and lipids, and exists naturally in hair. It has mainly two functions – 1) as a ‘glue’ of sorts to hold cuticle layers together, and 2) to aid the transfer of active ingredients into the cortex of hair. The Mucota AIRE+ products are specifically formulated with synthetic CMC (they call it ‘advanced CMC ingredients’), which are basically human-made clones of the naturally-occurring CMC in our hair. Products from the AIRE+ line, as such, help to improve the condition of chemically treated hair by allowing for the replacement of lost CMC with its clones, thereby allowing hair to be ‘healed’ from the damage it has received – not restored to it’s original virgin state for sure (this kind of S class magick a bit beyond them also), but definitely restored to a state of better health!

As their names suggest, they are meant for different uses. The 06 and 07 are daily-use, leave-in treatments for permed and rebonded hair respectively, while 05 is a rinse-off hair mask best recommended to be used once a week!
