Blow Drying Myths

BLOW-DRYING YOUR HAIR IS BAD

i’ve heard this a lot! and i used to believe it, but the stylists at art-noise will all tell you that blow-drying is actually good for your hair!

i don’t know if you get told this but my mother always said, “don’t go to bed with wet hair you will fall sick!”, and my aunt has also told me never to leave my hair wrapped up in a towel for too long otherwise it will become smelly so i always unwrapped my hair pretty quick and towel it as dry as i could. i also thought that the heat from the hair dryer would be bad for my hair, but at the same time i could only towel so much and i really couldn’t wait to go to bed so i would blow my hair very minimally; enough so that the rest would dry in time for bed.

ROOTS/SCALP
the stylists at art-noise will always give their customers the same advice: a damp scalp is an excellent breeding ground for bacteria and all other kinds of nasty things, so if you don’t have the time to blow dry all your hair, at least make sure the area at the roots is dry! without blow-drying, your natural body heat will make the water near your scalp evaporate, but your hair will trap that moisture in place, resulting in a damp scalp for bacteria to have a field day in. this leads to an unhealthy/dirty scalp which may contribute to hair loss

HAIR
when hair is wet it is very susceptible to damage! i’m not too sure about the science of this but our stylist tells me that each strand of hair is made up of a core, and the surrounding cuticle. when your hair is wet, the cuticle is loose; it isn’t coating the hair securely. have you ever seen those shampoo ads where the shampoo kinda forms a coating around each strand and smooths the weird flaking bits down? yeah i think it’s similar. so when it’s loose, the nutrients and moisture in your hair escape! but when your hair is gently squeezed dry with a towel (rather than rubbing! but you shouldn’t because the rubbing also damages your wet hair) and then blow-dried, the cuticle settles securely around the core and locks the nutrients in. your hair also looks a lot smoother and shinier.

of course, too much high heat is also bad for damaged hair, which is why the stylists usually recommend applying a mousse/cream or an oil to your hair to protect it from the heat before you blow-dry. by the way we have a really nice-smelling MUCOTA AIRE cream that really gives your hair a beautiful shine and helps to protect it from the heat and UV rays too! we sold out but last week we ordered a new batch so grab it while stocks last! a small amount of cream is enough even for long hair .

admittedly i can’t exactly attest to the benefits of blow-drying (to the hair part, anyway), because i rub my hair dry and my already dye-damaged hair is obviously not as shiny as it could be, but imma try not towelling so vigorously from now on! and see if my hair gets shinier. Our stylist really believes in the merits of blow-drying and i don’t exactly understand the science of it, but you can try it and let us know how it goes!
