Types of colouring techniques GREY COLOUR
Customer's preference The customer wanted a vibrant shade of blue because his original hair colour when he stepped into the salon was his natural black hair (no colouring done previously)
Advice from the stylist If the blue was directly applied onto the black hair, the colour will not be seen. Therefore there was a need to lighten the hair tone by bleaching before applying the blue onto the hair. I also advised him that a double colouring session was needed for the colour to turn out nicely. However, one point to note is that the hair colour (regardless of colour) on bleached hair will fade easily, so home care is extremely important. What the customer can do is to avoid shampooing the hair on the day of the colouring session. The suggested type of shampoo to use would be the colour shampoo, topped off with a leave-in treatment and for the customer to repeat this two steps daily.
Customer's thoughts on the outcome The customer was very pleased with the outcome because the one-time bleaching & double colour provided him with his desired shade of blue.
Stylist's thoughts on the outcome It is crucial for the hair to be lightened at least once with bleach if the customer wants to do cool colours (e.g. blue, violet, grey), or else the colour will not turn out nice. As such, the very first step involves bleaching the hair. Depending on the current hair condition and tendencies of the customer's hair, some customers only need to bleach their hair once but other customers may need to bleach their hair 2-3 times before the same effects are seen. Of course, if the bleaching can be done in 1 round, the damage to the hair is also reduced. For this particular customer, it was a relief that he only needed to bleach his hair only once for the blue to turn out nicely on him.
